Biographical
John is a Greenville native. He graduated from Duke University in 1978, and from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1983, where he served on the editorial board of the law review. After 13 years of trying cases at a local firm, he started his own practice. Throughout his career, John handled a wide variety of cases involving countless legal issues. His practice included construction litigation, commercial and business litigation, insurance disputes and real estate litigation. John has also represented numerous governmental entities, from the state level to local municipalities. In the summer of 2022, John was lead counsel in an eight-day Federal Court jury trial over a failed corporate acquisition. The trial resulted in directed verdicts being granted in favor of his client for $12,700,000.
In approximately 2000, John began mediating and arbitrating cases at the request of other members of the bar and has continued to do so since that time.
John has been an AV rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell since 2001, and has also been selected to South Carolina Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers, and Greenville’s Legal Elite. In 2020, he was recognized as the top vote getter in Greenville’s Legal Elite in the field of Business Litigation.
In his spare time, John is an avid reader, an enthusiastic if not particularly talented competitive swimmer, and a truly terrible poker player. His greatest accomplishment was convincing Amy to marry him in 2017.
